    Default X1i 3G UMTS bands

    Hey guys,

I have an Xperia X1i and I was wondering what bands you guys have. I know the X1i is supposed to carry UMTS 900/1900/2100.

If I goto the Start Menu > Settings > Phone > Band Tab > Select your GSM/UMTS band.

    I have options of:

    GSM (900+1800)+UTMS(2100+900)
    GSM(1900+850)+UTMS(1900+850)
    UTMS(2100+800)

Does this mean I have UTMS 850 as well? What options do you guys have?

I believe you don't have 850 and it's built in for switching only.

What do you mean by switching only?

    Hi bballboi948,

No you don't have UMTS 850
This has been discussed to death on other threads righ here in this forum.
But let me help you save some time with my short simple to understand version:
    ----------------------------------------------------------
    GSM NETWORKS
These are the actual GSM radio bands installed in the the hardware
    X1i and X1a = GSM 900+1800+850+1900
Any Xperia connects on GSM networks anywhere in the world except Japan
    No problem here.
    -----------------------------------------------------------
    3G UMTS NETWORKS
These are the actual UMTS radio bands installed in the hardware
    X1i = 2100+900+1900
    X1a =2100+850+1900

Those settings that you see in all Xperias
    Setting 1 = GSM (900+1800)+UTMS(2100+900)
    Setting 2 = GSM(1900+850)+UTMS(1900+850)
    Setting 3 = UTMS(2100+800)

These are the UMTS Bands used in some countries.
2100 or 900 in Europe, Asia, Most Carriers in Australia(900)
    1900 or 850 in Canada(850) AT&T(850 or 1900), Telstra in Australia(850), South America(850)
    2100 or 800 in Japan

Now that we know that, it's easy to decide what settings 1,2,or 3
you have to use in every country.
Also you can see what version X1i or X1a will work in any country:
    Examples:
    Both X1a and X1i work with AT&T 1900 With setting 2
But only X1a work with AT&T 850 with setting 2

X1i Works in Australia(900) and Europe with setting 1
X1a works with Telstra in Autralia (850) with setting 2

Both X1i and X1a Works in Japan 2100 with setting 3
(I don't thinks Xperia work in Japan 800 companies)

    Hope this will help.

Thanks for the info, but why would it even list the UTMS 850 if I don't have it on my phone?

Because the settings goes in pairs
and if you ever come to visit me in New York (1900 UMTS)
then you have to select setting 2 = UMTS 850/1900 (even if you don't have 850)
and if I visit you in EU with my X1a I select setting 1 UMTS 2100/900 (Even if I don't have 900.

To all the critics of the settings who said it was missleading,
making you believe your device had 850...
Let me congratulate SE for having those SMART settings
that works for all versions depending of where you go.

It's a Windows Mobile thing. People said that European HTC Touch Pro's had the same options available even though the bands weren't present in the hardware.
