Vodaphone - Unlocked?
My cousin just bought a phone off Ebay (bad idea - I know) and the guy told him it is unlocked.
As it turns out his auction also says upgrade from Vodaphone. He claims he asked Vodaphone and it will work on other networks, too.
Can someone please confirm if Vodaphone is offering an unlocked version? Also does this mean it won't have any locked features, etc?
Really appreciate any answers as my cousin needs to cancel asap if there is no unlocked version and he has just been conned.

im sure all phones provided by Vodaphone are now sim unlocked, but Vodafone do provide this service for free, do it over the phone, not in store, usually in store they might charge you £20, which is a joke. I got my phone unlocked in 5 mins over the phone to vodafone.

But will it still have the Vodaphone logo and the fixed Vodaphone panel? Also do they lock any features? From what I have been reading up it seems that a lot of the people having problems are the ones using the Vodaphone version. So I am a bit apprehensive as my cousin is paying 480 pounds for this phone and that just doesn't make sense to me as he could have just gotten the unlocked one for 499.

very true, i would rather do what you just stated... but i can tell you that i have not really had any problems with my one, and i too am using Vodafone, yes there is a vodafone logo on the metal back, but it doesn't affect the functionality of the phone. Software wise - they have removed the Google Panel, but you can also retrieve that with a search on Google. Other bugs are mainly related to SE or Windows Mobile, not really the fault of Vodafone... but as with most of these phones, you will need updates to fix these minor bugs. I am quite happy with my one at the moment.

So no unlocked features then?
It still sucks though as he was ordering on my behalf and I asked him to order from clove. I so don't want to get with a Vodafone Xperia from Ebay

Vodafone X1 is unlocked but not unbranded. Keep an eye on xda-developers.com for ROM updates/ports that with some other tools will allow you to replace the Vodafone ROm with a generic SE ROM (see here: Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 - xda-developers)
