Default A Q about SPB Backup

Hi guys! I had taken a backup of my X1 on the memory card and did a hard reset a few weeks ago. Now, I didn't restore the backup. I have installed a few softwares and made changes in it. If I restore the backup now, will SPB backup overwrite the existing status and restore it as it was at the time of backup or will it preserve the present files?
I'll give an example to make it more clear.
Supposing I had 300 contacts at the time of backup. Then I did a hard reset, added say some 30 contacts which are not in the back up file. Now If i restore the backup, will it add the 30 contacts to the original 300 make them 330 or will it replace the 30 contacts with the 300 (and hence deleting the 30)??

I think it will restore to the back up settings and remove anything new, back ups should only
be used directly after a hard reset as well because if there are any new progs installed
it is possibly there will be residual traces left and the phone may not work well after.
the best thing you can do is to use pim back up to back up contacts etc. do a hard reset, restore the old back up, then you can use the pim backup to ammend the existing
contacts, and then re install any new apps you have.

I tried out a few things yesterday. I took another backup yesterday, in case anything goes wrong. I did a restore (which was taken before i upgraded my firmware). Manythings went wrong:
The programs menu weirdly kept flashing!
    New application gone.
Old bugs came back (freezing at the time of starting)
So I had to restore the new backup file. After that too, i've noticed a few things not very good. - The cell freezes when starting sometimes.
But nonetheless, its fine after that.
