    Default All of a sudden...getting Rogers 3G on x1i

OK, I must be dreaming! I looked at my x1i today, and I'm suddenly getting 3G/H. Until today, I've always only had Edge.

    fieldtest.exe band shows 255:unknown
Ran speed test from dslreports.com using Opera; showing 1124 kbit/sec for a 1MB file test. Ran again with IE and got 1190 kbit/sec

I know the hardware specs on the x1i don't match up with Rogers 3g network, so did Rogers change their network recently?

This is an unlocked x1i with Generic UK ROM 1.05.931.10 R3AA010

I'm in Aurora, Ontario (north of Toronto).

    Anyone else seeing this?

Rogers is not necessarily completely incompatible with the X1i.

Canadian networks operate 3G frequencies of 850 and 1900MHz (with 850MHz being the recommended band for compatibility) and the X1i has a chip that works with 900, 1900 and 2100MHz.
Obviously, I'm not sure about individual networks (nor am I suitably bothered to spend any length of time investigating) but it's certainly possible that Rogers have just been improving their 1900MHz coverage and that's why you're now seeing better speeds.

Yes, I agree that the specs of the x1i versus Rogers 3g network in the GTA have been discussed to death.
What I'm hoping to hear is that others are seeing the same thing. Also wondering if anyone has heard anything from Rogers regarding network enhancements.

Well, at the end of the day, if it works why worry?

HeHe. Just looking for confirmation before I get too excited. Knowing Rogers, they might just say it was a glitch, and apologize for any inconvenience.

Called Rogers tech support earlier; the rep I spoke with had no idea, so he asked a colleague. The colleague apparently said they now support all 4 frequencies.
The colleague was on a call, so I couldn't get any further info.
So theoretically, I was told that Rogers is now running 3g on 850, 900, 1900, 2100 mhz.
I have not been able to find anything on Rogers' site to confirm in writing.
    Anyone else able to confirm?

I too have an x1i and is also getting 3g for some strange reason. If it is true that rogers is supporting 3g on all four bands than i might as well add data to my plan cuz i'm considering if i should right now.

Aha! Think it may be related to Rogers introduction of the HSPA+ ROCKET™ MOBILE INTERNET STICK
    See: Rogers.com - Pre-order your HSPA+ Rocket™ Stick
    Specs there indicate:
    Technology: HSPA+/EDGE/GSM

    Frequency:
    HSPA+/UMTS 850/1900/2100Mhz
    GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900Mhz

    Data Transmission:
HSDPA – Up to 21Mbps downlink
HSUPA – Up to 5.76Mbps uplink
