hey guys, i hope this helps as it solved the problem for me. because theres so many different settings and networks you guys use, its upto you guys to use your brain here.

first restart your phone, but make sure your wireless router is on,remember before any of this you should have entered all relevant wireless router settings such as password to get access to the internet. so step by step

    1. first go on settings, then communication below. then comm manager and turn off data connection

    2. go settings again, click on wi-fi, click on your wireless router connection from the list, then where it says "connects to" make sure you choose "the internet" and not work. and click next till finish. then staying in wi-fi section click on network adaptors right at the bottom...then where it says my network card connects to: make sure you choose "the internet" and not work.

    3. last step, within settings click on connections. then at the bottom says advance go there, then click select networks, then from both lists you should have your own network, work internet or my ISP. MAKE SURE BOTH LISTS YOU CHOOSE MY ISP. ok

thats it, note that my x1 is unbranded and unlocked, so if did not help then I am sorry but it did the trick for me after playing about with it. let me know how you get on

I'm still waiting for my X1 (should be at home when I get in tonight, apparently *sighs*), so I can't deal in specifics, but the error you describe sounds like what you get if you don't have the correct security info. set up for your wi-fi connection.

Have you checked your network name and password are correct? They're usually case-sensitive.

If there is a 'test connection' option, what result does it give?

Sometimes with Windows, it seems that the connection is fine even if the password was wrong or the security failed for some reason. I'm not clear from this whether you've tried the 'test connection' option...if so, exactly what does it say?

If there are IP address options, make sure you've enabled DHCP and/or that the IP address is automatically assigned by your router.

Im not sure if the X1 has a test connection option, and if it has, I have not come across it!

My I.P address is auto assigned also.

OK, I suspect that the connection is not being made correctly, but it's hard to tell without a connection test, and I don't have an X1 here to look at yet (grrrr....don't get me started ).

Although your router is set to assign IP addresses automatically, you also need to ensure that your Xq is configured to expect this. I'm shooting in the dark here, so I can't really be much more help here.

Can anyone out there who actually has an X1 see what options are available for configuring a connection please?

PUMPDAD I have exactly the same problem with my Vodafone X1. I can hook into my router (wpa-psk/tkip) but the X1 will not use this connection for browsing (Opera or IE). I followed i-Citizens advice and that did work for me but at the same time this also broke my data connections and was unable to update webmail (gmail) from the messaging app.

To resolve this I had to alter
    3. last step, within settings click on connections. then at the bottom says advance go there, then click select networks, then from both lists you should have your own network, work internet or my ISP. MAKE SURE BOTH LISTS YOU CHOOSE MY ISP
and choose WEB in the drop down boxes. I have a feeling that this is something to do with Vodafones configuration.

PUMPDAD - what provider are you with?

My provider is Vodafone with the X1, and Virgin as my ISP.

Both my boxes show as 'MY ISP', should I be turning on data connection, or WI-FI in the comm manager?
