Silly question regarding 3g and wifi connections
Im yet to recieve my x1, but one thing has cropped up in the back of my mind and im sure theres a simple answer. The contract i have got with it gives me 'free' 500mb data a month obviously using 3g. So my question is this, can i select what method i wish to use to connect to the internet, id say i'll be using wifi the most with 3g if i really need to.
oh and would anyone know if 500mb sounds reasonable per month for 3g?
Cheers!

Such a silly question that I have asked my carrier who is Vodafone for clarification.
I don't think that there would be much danger of exceeding 500Mb using a regular phone just for web browsing but on a X1 running Windows Mobile with Exchange Active Sync, BBC Mobile TV, U-Tube and Terminal Services it could be a real possibility.
On the basis that Vodafone could not tell me how much of my 500Mb I have used I assume that Vodafone don't know themselves so they are unlikely to come after me.
Also the new Vodafone fair use policy states that they will contact me and ask me to regulate my usage I assume I will be able to avoid additional charges.
A convenient way for Vodafone users to get a summary of usage is to use the Vodafone billing facility and have it email a CSV file of daily usage. I typically clock up between 2Mb and 5Mb per day so I should be well within 500Mb per month but I have just discovered BBC Mobile TV so my usage might increase dramatically.
Edit: BBC Mobile TV only works over WiFi so my data allowance will not be affected.Last edited by Actual; 04-17-2009 at 02:53 PM.
Fight excessive forum signatures by using Edit Options to turn off Show Signatures. Oh...
