    Default Tips n tricks forum?

I'm just wondering, is it worth making a new forum which is exclusively for tips and tricks?

Now, I know that many/most tips and tricks for the x1 are covered in other threads and forums. The issue I see is that often a very useful tip or feature is mentioned casually in a thread that is unrelated, or the topic it is in is so obscure that when searching for the answer to a problem, it might not be an obvious point of reference.

My proposal is that we have a forum where there is a set structure for the topic title. The first post of the topic would describe in sufficient detail the issue (if there is one), and the solution. Because of the clear title structure, when searching for an answer to an issue, it would be obvious from the search results. Also, people browsing the forum may also find tips which they weren't looking for, but are extremely useful nonetheless.

Any thoughts on the idea? It seems in forums there are often 2 core principals, one where reposts are frowned upon and people posting existing information is deemed bad, and another (my mentality) where it is felt duplication of information can be a good thing, increasing the odds of relevant material being turned up in searches.

To combine the two principals, where more than one solution exists, either the topic title can cover the idea in general, and the extra solutions could be added to that thread, or new threads could be made with a link to the alternative/old method, differentiating between the both (EG, "Method to disable confirmation pop ups" and "Method 2 to disable..."). This way if someone finds one solution doesn't work, an alternative is already easily accessible?

This new forum would be strictly for the issues and/or solutions. Discussion could remain in existing forums. This would help make the whole forum more efficient. Making use of the "thank" button, this would also act as an indicator of the usefulness of the solution, so where more than one related tip is available, whichever is more effective would be expected to have been "thanked" more.

Hopefully this idea might be useful. Judging from the kinds of posts and the range of WM experience X1 users have, a systematic and clear archive/inventory of tips, tweaks, and solution would be ideal. I hasten to add that it would not be a place for people to post problems...but if someone has a problem in the problems board, and a working solution is found, this solution (and description of the issue) could be copied across in a clear format for future reference.

    An example format could be:

    Thread/topic title:
"Tip - Disabling the lost call connection 3 Beeps"

    Issue:
When in a phone call, if the connection is lost, or the other person hangs up first, the X1 creates 3 loud beeps

    Solution - Registry edit:
Using Total commander (free, available here...(insert link)) navigate to: //registry/HKCU/controlpanel/sounds/calldrop
Next, open up "sound" and delete the calldrop.wav text and save the change.

This will change the 3 beeps to a barely audible click. It is also possible to change the text to another sound if you just want something less noisy!

It dawned on me only a little after posting, that in essence I described a forum based x1 help wiki! I don't know whether that would be a better option (a wiki shell hosted on the xperiax1 site) or whether keeping it all within the forum so things could be more easily integrated would be a good idea?

Did anything come of this in the mods lounge?

As Biovolt has said elsewhere, this place may not have the level of technical knowledge as xda-developers, but it is friendly. I still think having a clutter free section with clear and concise questions/problems and their answers would help raise the bar for X1 forums and make this place a good choice for people who don't know the technical lingo, or don't want to trawl through a very technical minded forum for what is often a simple answer!!

i am on to this (collecting the most common issuses for the x1 (mp3 as ring tone, sms reminder, updating rom....) and will post it after completed but it is hell of work to collect it all. This is more cause issues are spread over the two sub forums (xperia X1 and issues). if someone would like to share with me i'll appreciate it and so we can finish faster.
