Thread: X1a vs X1i??

I know the X1a is the one for US and the X1i is for the UK. I've read that there will be 2 distinct differences.

1. the US version can only record video at QVGA at a slower frame rate. UK version has VGA at 30 FPS.
2. the Xperia has 2 versions, X1a and X1i. Both have tri-band HSPA. The US version (X1a) should have the 850/1900/2100 MHz. And the international version (X1i) should have the 900/1900/2100 Mhz. Both versions are quad band EDGE. In the US, we have 850 and 1900, under AT&T. What this means (and i could be mistaken) is you'd get normal phone and EDGE reception. BUT, when you use the fast internet, 3G, you'd only be supported in areas where there are 1900Mhz. This might not be an issue depending on where you live.

hmm, intriguing. Im not sure if the differences with be drastic or anything. Probably just those little things. as far as physical or internally it should still be the same in all regions and areas. Of course like stated, 3g and such will change depending on where one mite be located or traveling.

Everywhere I see diff info. If this is correct that means if you want VGA video at 30 fps, then the X1i will work with att. Where I live (NY see map) att have all three 850-1900-3G.

In the map, 850 and 1900 overlap for most of the USA. So the only problem is: if you don't have 1900 there is NO way you can get 3G.

So your choice is to sacrifice the 3G but get the VGA video or buy the USA version and sacrifice the VGA video but get the 3G.

the phones are all quadband GSM but are triband 3G, apparently from all that i have seen the info is correct the US version will record video in qVQA at 15fps, I really have no idea why, maybe it is why you guys will get it cheaper when the phone offically ships over??

i wanted 30fps, that's the main reason (among others) why i'm getting the x1. looks like the x1i is my number one choice.

Well I would definately wait a week or two after the release date then as it currently is liusted fairly expensive... as we find the new deals we will let you know about them, vodafone will do it at £380+vat at the mo

The last Q and A we did sparked off loads of new questions so, over the weekend I caught up with Magnus and we’ve gone through the main themes. The answers are as follows:

X1a / X1i differences: The X1a will be sold in the US, Latin America and Australia it differs from the X1i in its network configuration and the video support (it is 24 fps instead of 30). Contrary to some rumors, both versions have a front facing camera.

Keyboard layouts: A few people picked up on the fact that the X1 product site features two different keyboard layouts – this is due to regional differences. England uses Qwerty – EN, France uses Azerty, Germany uses Qwertz etc…

Screen Orientation: there is no button officially assigned to change the screen orientation but it is possible to assign one of the soft keys to do this is you want to.

SAR value: Venus max SAR value (of use case of UMTS+ BT turned on) is 1.47w/kg.

US release date: This will be announced by Sony Ericsson US on Nov 3rd

I don't know what all the confusion is and if im missing something I apologize. But havent anyone here ever bought a Sony Ericsson international (i) phone before and live in the states. I have had a Sony Ericsson P900i, P910i, P900i and a P1i. All of which worked fine in the states. So the X1i..shouldnt have a problem either. T-mobile works completely fine. AT&T only had problems is some areas with their bands, but for the most part it will work fine. Now that Ive cleared that up

Now, if its the FPS everyone is worried about its been confirmed in several publications that the X1i is 30fps and the (a) version is stated to run 24fps...This is the only minor difference between the two models. I will say this again the X1i will work fine in the US.
