It's all a question of do you want to pay or do you want a free player?

Whether free or not, all players should as a minimum handle music files as sort by: albums, artists, playlist, genres with the ablility to shuffle and repeat individual or many tracks.

I have over 80+ albums of mp3's loaded onto my SDHC card, and Windows Media player is too basic to handle this amount.

So for me the top two, that I have tried are:

free - TouchFlo Music Player (still use that one now)
pay - CorePlayer (tried demo version - refuse to pay for it, as it is not vastly superior to TF3 Music Player

Maybe it's how I upload my songs through a Mac program called Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, and that all the songs go into separate folders for each album as your expect, but in a main folder called Missing Sync, but my TouchFlo Manila Music Player searches for all my songs on my device, and comes up with my ringtones etc... I can't seem to get it to narrow down it's search, so it is slow and full of stuff I don't want to appear...

(It seems I've solved the artwork issue in most my media apps, but are your tracks listed in order under Albums in TF3D Player?)

TF3D doesn't show all the albums I add. It's as if I need to refresh my list so that it can add the new ones, but there does not seen to be a refresh option.

Core Player is okay, but firstly, it shows most of my album artwork as a mess of colour, and secondly, it is quite fiddly to select a folder of songs and play.

Window Media Player works well, but has no artwork (synced from iTunes), and again is not easy to choose what you want.

PocketMusic looks great, but again it seems to be hard to get it to play the music I want.

I'd like a music player, with or without artwork (but displayed correctly if it is going to try), that is easy to navigate without the stylus. Imagine walking along the road and being able to select the album you want single-handedly. Most important, it needs to be able to search as follows:

Main Music Folder/Collection of Folders named, eg, Madonna - Hard Candy/Hard Candy tracks (alphabetically), and be able to read the track numbers in the tags so that they appear in the player in the correct order. Plenty of players, like Windows Media Player let you list the albums by reading the tags.

Is there actually a music player for Windows Mobile that can do this simple task, or should I have got that iPhone after all?!

(I'm not really as angry as I come across lol)

Yeah, I downloaded it late last night after doing numerous Google searches. It is BY FAR the best player, and has a great WM skin you can play with, great browsing of your music and playlists. Just better than anything else. Love how you can tweak it with the hundreds of options.

Which version of TF3D are you using? The album information updates automatically, so there is no need for a scan/refresh option.

Just to prove this fact I copied an album down to my X1 via Explorer (through ActiveSync), and it was there in the album tags "virtually" immediately.

Just one thing you should note: the TF3D music player is "case-sensitive", that is, for example: Kings of Leon is not the same as Kings Of Leon. In my mind this is excellent, and very Un-windows like (being an IT & Unix person A and a are NOT the same character, if they were why should we have two different ASCII code's for them?).

Also as far as straight listening test goes, my excellent Shure E4C earphones, the TF3D player is superior to PocketPlayer. With some average encoded music (i.e. 128Kbps) and average headphones (mine cost over £100 new, for reference) you might not notice the difference.

Short of recording all music in a lossless format like FLAC or WMA, not all encoders are the same, so make sure you use the latest version of something like LAME. Anyway I digress, but you've hit on a subject that I'm passionate about and have a lot of experience with .
