    Default optical pad no longer works

    why?

    I can still press it in though, acting as a mouse click if you get what I mean.

    other users have reported that their optical pads get deactivated unintentionally... i suggest you go into settings->system->optical joystick and check to see whether it's been "accidentally" deactivated.
