Default Unknown device error when connected

When I connect my X1 to PC running Vista Ultimate and latest download of WMDC 6.1 I get an error messgae "USB Device not Recognized".

In Device Manager I get an unknown device under USB controllers and WMDC says "Not Connected".

I have tried everything with reinstalling WMDC and rebooting both PC and X1.

Contact sync is the main reason for going with X1 over G1.

If I can't get this working then it's back to my Crackberry.

    mmm. MITE be the vista.

ill research more into it to try and offer you more help.
Windows xp here. never had a problem syncing stuff.

while searching around, it might just be a vista thing. if it worked with 6.0
here are a few things ive found.

FIRST: try taking the SD card out and see if it syncs like that...

if that still doesnt work then try the rest below.

    - Connect your device to the computer.

On the PC, press the Window logo key + R.

    Type devmgmt.msc.

Under Network Adapters node, you will see Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter. Right click on it and select uninstall.

Under Mobile devices node, you will see Microsoft USB Sync. Right click to uninstall.

    Disconnect and re-connect the phone.

WMDC will reinstall the drivers and should sync your device.

    - before plugging device to your computer, run taskmanager and close activesync. When you are sure that this application is not running then plugin your USB cable.

No Microsoft Mobil Remote Adapter under Network Adapters.

No Mobile Devices in Device Manager at all.

    Same error without SD card.

First time trying to sync. Never loaded 6.0

Taskmanager? Activesync will not install on a Vista PC.

I stumbled on to the solution!

It appears the USB cable I was using was only a 4 wire cable. It would charge but not sync. I replaced it with a "true" sync USB cable and it worked fine.

Oh man!! I came here thinking I'd find a solution. My cable I'm using is what came with my experia. My computers just all of a sudden don't recognize my phone. :-(
