ActiveSync, Contacts and Outlook.
When I first got my Xperia I had to transfer my contact from SIM to phone.
I had a SEC902 with a lot of contacts (names, home, mobile, work email etc) in the contacts list.
When they copied to the Xperia instead of having a contact with lots of information, I ended up with mulitple copies of the same person for each bit of information I had for them, most of them have incomplete name and in an odd format SMI;John/1 SMI;John/2 SMI;John/3 instead of John SMITH (with a number of contact details).
I connected to my PC with the activesync software, but am unable to correct the 300+ dodgy contacts I have.
Now I have installed Microsoft Office 2003 and run Outlook,
How do I get ANY information import into this application?
ActiveSync fails as I have not got the correct profile to allow the transfer, what is my profile, how was it created and by whom?
It's really starting to naff me off, sending a text message is a pain as the mobile number doesn't always work and the X1 thinks I'm trying to email a contact, so I have to select THE SAME contact before it will send.
Never had any trouble with SMS, MMS or email on my previous SE phones and the contact list was a dámn sight easier to navigate.
Of course I much fewer contacts and each element had a nice icon to identify which number or address messages would be sent to.
PS Never used any item of Office before (except for PowerPoint, Word and Excel Viewer), including Outlook Express!Last edited by milowokie; 01-11-2009 at 06:25 PM.

First , sorry for bad english!
You must organize your contacts in Microsoft Outlook completely in the maner you want with multiple numbers under same name etc., before you do sync.
After you done this connect Your phone with PC with usb connection and open Windows Mobile Device Center-Mobile Device Settings-Change Content sync setting-UNCHECK Contacts and save. In that way your phone will be cleaned competely for bad contacts. Now ,second time you CHECK Contacts and under sync settings uncheck Microsoft Exchange-save. Second step (or maybe first) is - under : Manage a partnership-check window : "if there is conflict -REPLACE ITEMS ON DEVICE and not on PC !!! (so you renew your contacts with new, good organized data). If there is again problem with connection and you get message "sync failed" or "server connection lost" , go and make sync FROM YOUR PHONE, that's a way i only could make good synchronisation. Good luck.

I found the reason I had so many entries was because the X1 was displaying both the numbers on my sim card and outlook. this can easily be fixed by xperia tweak which gives you the option to 'hide' sim nos from view leaving the multiple contacts in place go to www.cliffords.nu an excellent bit of kit & should sort you out (hopefully)
