Default Engadget's Review - Sounds like they had a bad experience...?
Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 review - Engadget Mobile

So Engadget has put up their review... It doesn't sound very good.

They love the design and pretty much everything about it, except the actual performance.

They're reporting lag on the phone which is reminding me of previews of early prototypes. They also seem to hate the keyboard much more than other reviewers. Whats going on here? :|

On the contrary, I love the keyboard and the tactile feedback is just right. I don't know why they say it is very flat, as I could feel all the keys without problems. After a few days, I am typing very fast with it already with little mistakes. One point I do agree is that the top row of keys is a bit too close to the edge of the screen, so those keys may be harder to hit if you have large fingers.

Seems like it depends on the user. Other reviews have said the same thing you have, bloob.

Weird, I've experienced nothing of that kind of lag...

Overall they were very positive about the device though...

I was expecting brushed metal keys on the keyboard, that's how Sony Ericsson made it look. the biggest issues for me with the X1 are the lag and the poor sound quality in both speakers. I used a Nokia N95 and the crap sound quality reminded me of the X1 to be honest.

Reviewer are just a point of reference.

The best reviewer is the user who spends months,
fine tuning, personalizing, getting used with it until
it becomes second nature.

If you want to know about a device ask the serious
user he knowsbetter that a reviewer.

Reviewer is just a job. They spend just a few hours,
they forget about preferences, if something doesn't
work is not their job to find out why, they just report it.

Want an example?

I agree with Bloob & Pinguino1 on this.

A review on a complex piece of kit should not be based on a few hours of contact. Being a fan of Symbian and SE for years, I was first appalled at the thought of WinMobile taking over. It also took me a week of 3-4hrs a day, to get to grips with the complexity and difference of Windows.

However now having my X1 for almost 3 weeks, I can honest say it's the best phone I've had. Not perfect, but a good 9/10. There are things I don't like, but the good far outweighs the bad.

Keyboard - once you get going, extremely fast, but the top row does require a bit more space above. If you still want a larger or more traditional virtual one, many good downloads available.

What sets this phone apart, which some reviewers seem to miss, it's the fact it is not just a phone. It's in-between a PDA and small PC. The latter being extremely important, as virtually all parts of the interface is customisable to everyone's needs. However this is not a phone for a novice or someone who doesn't have the inclination or time to set it up how they'd like.

The top row of keys are too close to the screen.. I agree with their remark.

I am sure this will be fixed in the next hardware revision.

Well given that there are shortages reported we can assume the X1 has passed the real test! See here: Sony Ericsson X1 Xperia stock shortages - Mobile Today
