how do i change the green windows mobile welcome screen?

well that is the product reference guide and not the phone, but I assume you mean the winmo screen that is only there when it is loading up from being turned off. I doubt it if that can be changed but without sounding nasty,

does it really matter?

i manage to change the "loading screen"
windows/welcomehead.192.png -> change this

and the loading screen it will change
remember .. the picture resolution 800x480 or 800x800
and the format "png"

if the xperia dont let you copy the image in windows (give you an error of space or read only file)
use this program Total comander
and copy the image in \Windows\
