It will work anywhere as long as you have a GSM (SIM card using) carrier.

3G on the other hand... depends on if youre on ATT or Tmo, looks like X1i works on ATT 3G. But then theres the whole thing about how 900mhz in UK and US are different or whatever.. horribly confusing to me.

basic answer is yes it will work as a phone in the US,

The 3G issue I think if you are on AT&T you will be OK, if you are on T-mobile you wont be
