Unhappy Signal problems
Hi there,

I have a Sony X1 on UK Vodafone.

I have had this problems with two X1s now - both from completely different batches.

Signal issues

70% of the time my mobile has no signal - it doesn't matter where - suffice is to say something is not right with the X1.

I am now sitting in Starbucks in the centre of Oxford, UK, and have no signal. however, there is a way to solve the problem - but you can't call it a 'fix'...

if i open communication manager and leave it open for about 30seconds-3 minutes the phone initates a connection with the network and instead of saying 'no coverage', it spends a while searching, and then finds its 2G/3g network connection.

then i send a text message and place a call and all is well.

five minutes later - no network coverage again.

as i said this problem has been on two x1s now.

please, please, please, please help me before i sell this and get another phone :-(

I have noticed that there are areas where I don't get a signal and other phones do, but not 70% of the time. Annoyingly it tends to be in places where I do want to use things like the data connection too

I've not noticed a fix but do find quite often the phone will report a weak signal, I will pick it up and start to do something, and then it'll lose the signal

Thanks for your response. Yes, signal seems to be generally temperamental.

My situation seems somewhat exceptional.

I just hope someone has had experience with this problem and can help...

Hi can't be of much help but I too am on Vodafone and find my coverage very patchy!

As an eample in a pub I would struggle for a signal.

The other day I was chasing someone in my town (in the open) while dialling 999 and mind way through the call the signal cut me off!

Vodafone have said they will send the phone away for me and have a look at the antenna just need to make sure I have an upto date contact list on my comp before send it away.

Hey, thanks a lot for this story.

Clearly, then, it is just not my handset but possibly the Vodafone-X1 combination isn't too great?! So much for reliability if you've making an emergency call and it cuts off - that's appalling, clearly.

Without being pessimistic, I am afraid that when you get your phone back, you'll probably experience the same trouble....

Oh, dear, really...

I'm having the same problems.
Signal strengh is very weak in areas where previous phones have been fine.
Then when I pick the phone up to use it (text, call etc) signal drops out and can't do a thing until it comes back in again. One of the worst areas is at my desk at work. (I'm on Vodafone and live in Peterborough, UK).

Interestingly I tried an O2 sim in the phone and at my desk, I was getting a full strength H signal. So I think it's a Vodofone / X1 combination issue.

This is precisely what I am talking about. Clearly it's just ****!

I am going to sell my Xperia on eBay and get an iPhone - it's simple, it works, and it will work great with my Macbook laptop.

DON'T GET AN XPERIA PEOPLE IF YOU WANT RELIABILITY AND STABILITY!

It's not a Vodaphone issue, it's an X1 issue, I'm on O2 and have the exact same troubles!

Haha, it's so sad.

Thanks, then i'm definitely selling!

How can any MSP provide such a bad service. Why did they not test the product? Or, if they did, how can they justify releasing something of such poor quality....

Thanks for your case study, zpyder :-)
