Default Yet on more touch screen issue with protective screen on.
Hi All,

I have just bought the phone, and put the protective screen on it, even before turning it on the first time. So i turned on the phone, and it showed me the prompt - to tap the screen to proceed with initial config, well the screen was completely unresponsive... i tapped it several times. I thought device is broken and even called Sony support. They told me to send it back.

So then just for sakes of it I have removed the protective screen and it let me calibrate and set it up just fine!... Now i am debating whether i should buy the screen again, cuz i threw the first one out of frustration?

Did it happen to anyone else, maybe i had to calibrate it first?
I mean screen is not that responsive even without protection.

Thanks!

Andrei.

I've always used screen protectors on mine and never had a problem. You do have to press a lot harder than you'd expect on the calibration though.

I had a bit of a problem with my protective screen...

I peeled off the backing and applied the protective screen and it seemed to be firmly stuck and I was apprehensive about how I would remove it at a later date but everything seemed OK.

I put the phone in my pocket and went to football. I must have put my plastic glasses case in the same pocket for about 10 minutes and later when I looked at my phone the screen was all scuffed up. I thought I had ruined my brand new X1 and this put me in a very bad mood.

When I got home I managed to remove the protective screen with no difficulty whatsoever which was a big relief.

As it happens I had purchased 2 protective screens and when I examined the spare I realised that the screen came in 3 layers and the top layer was just ordinary plastic which scuffed easily.

So I applied the second protective screen by peeling off the backing layer, applying the screen and then peeling off the top layer and the results are excellent.

The first screen had attracted dust and debris and could not be reused.

I recalibrate my screen by pressing as lightly as possible during the calibration and the performance is excellent.

A classic example of error between chair and keyboard

Settings -> System -> Screen

Some say that for best results you should press accurately and lightly.

For the calibration I noticed that as a sort of "fail-safe" when you do press it, it does take a few seconds to register it as most people would have difficulty pressing it in the exact spot straight away - this way it gives you a couple of seconds to ensure you're putting pressure on the right spot.

Don't worry if you accidentally calibrate it wrong, you can always try again using the steps listed above !!!

Hope this helps,

Nirave
