No problems for me. I'm using an unbranded X1 on Smartone-Vodafone network. My wifi router is from Netgear and I'm using WPA-PSK security.
Connecting to free public wifi hotspots hasn't been a problem for me too.

Using an unbranded X1 and both WPA and WEP Wifi access work fine here.

I use Vodafone UK and connect to my wireless router at home no problem on wifi. I have also connected it to the wifi at work and a couple of hotels I have stayed at in the last week.

Is access control enabled on your router? If so, disable it.
