Xperia X1 Manual Released

Xperia X1 User ManualFor those of us who just can't seem to get our hands on an X1, Sony has finally released the official user guide to hopefully keep us amused for the next few weeks. While it may not sound like much, I personally have always been one to rip open the packaging of just about anything I buy; just to flip through the manual on the car ride home.

The free download touches on the majority of important features of the Xperia X1, including Location based services, panels, included Windows Mobile applications. The nearly 30 page manual comes in at just about 1MB, and is worth looking getting your feet wet in if the Xperia hasn't made its way to your country yet.

Xperia X1 officially launched in UK!

Xperia LaunchedToday is the official UK release of the Xperia X1. Our UK users are fortunate to be among the first in the world to get their hands on the much anticipated device. We have already witnessed a face lift at the official Xperia site, and a few unboxing videos have surfaced throughout the web.

We're eagerly awaiting some first impressions from our users. If you've already got your hands on the X1 then please drop by the Xperia forums and let us know what you think.

There isn't an official US release date, though sources suggest that it's going to be leaked in to stores any time now. Watch this space.

Xperia X1 in action

At CTIA 2008, Mobileburn had the opportunity to experience the X1 in action, more specifically the panels system.

This video among others, show just how awesome the panels system. Also take a look at that screen, throw opera mobile on that and I'm certain it's going to be an awesome browsing experience. Very few phones manage to achieve this, often due to a small screen.

There's an event being held in London this week. A select number of X1 bloggers are invited to have a hands on experience with the X1. Fortunately I'm only 40 minutes from London, needless to say we've applied for an invitation, I'll keep you updated on how that goes.

Official X1 Release Date of September 30th, Rumors laid to Rest

X1 Release DateWe had quite a scare last week with the rumors of a 2009 push back on the X1. Thankfully, Sony has laid those to rest with an official release date of September 30th. This release date, which is just a few weeks away, is initially for the UK, Germany, and Sweden. A release date for the following countries is expected to be announced later in Q4:

    * Indonesia, Singapore, Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam
    * Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, Portugal
    * Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic
    * UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait
    * South Africa
    * Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay and Bolivia

For those in North America, China, Australia and Russia; no further date is noted. According to Sony dates will be announced in local markets over the coming months. Looks like unlocked might be the way to go for those wanting the X1 outside of the three officially launched countries.

This is great news for those eagerly anticipating the launch, and we expect numerous carriers to start picking the mobile up over the coming weeks. Still no official word on pricing.

UPDATE: Vodafone and O2 have officially picked this up in Germany and UK. More via Engadget Xperia X1

As always, this can be discussed in our Xperia X1 Forums!

SDK for Xperia Panel Interface Released, Developers Rejoice

Xperia Panel InterfaceThe SDK for Windows Mobile 6.1 has been out for some time, but this SDK is quite a bit different. If you have been following the Xperia since the leak in February, you have undoubtedly noticed the custom panel interface on top of WM. Well now Sony has opened the gate for developers to utilize this unique user interface, which allows:

  • Customize your Xperia™ X1 panels so you are a touch away from your favourite content – music, film, TV, sports
  • Or, be the envy of your friends by watching TV or film clips in DVD quality on the three-inch high resolution touch-widescreen
  •  Get picture happy on the 3.2 megapixel camera and show the images in crystal clear clarity on the 800 X 480 pixels screen
  • Access the latest 3D mobile games by simply touching a favorite gaming panel you have selected

With the SDK now available, I would guess the rumors of a 2009 release date will be laid to rest in the coming weeks.

Xperia X1 in Black, No option for Silver?

Xperia X1 in Black

Personally, I like the black. But for those who have been following the numerous spy shots, hands on, and video leaks this might come as a disappointment. This is because nearly all of the press the Xperia has received thus far has shown it in a silver shell. And now, according to Sony’s official site, the X1 will only be available in Solid Black.

With the release date still in question, I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a silver edition in the coming months; as it is clearly already on Sony’s mind. For most this is just a minor detail, and definitely won’t stop those serious about getting this mobile on the release date.
